With too many vacation points and too many cancelations over the last 18 months we were left with points expiring at the end of the year. Thus we searched for a place to go that was easy to get to and fit into our schedule.
Washington DC became the destination. We hadn’t been there for at least 20 or 30 years. We booked the hotel and started the trip planning. It is only a 3 to 4 hour drive IF you don’t hit traffic jams. This sounded fine until we looked at the cost of parking -$60 daily! We took Amtrak to DC. There were no traffic delays to Union Station. We walked the 2 miles to the Mayflower Hotel.
We had no set plans other then to walk around. The weather was perfect. The crowds were non existent. It was the beginning of December.
